The scriptures says that a man shall leave his mother and father and join with his wife and the two shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:24). It is not a natural thing for two people of different sexes, dispositions, culture, belief systems, values, and aspirations to become one. However, in God’s eyes, two becoming one is a spiritual norm.

So, what is God’s perspective on marriage? It is important for us as engaged couples, newlyweds and married couples to search out and to understand what it means to be one flesh. It is also important to address immediate problems, using past experiences to understand the present. Our beliefs and learned ways of communicating and how we emotionally relate, may be hindering our understanding of God’s perspective on marriage.
