A Christian counselling service dedicated to renewing and transforming the mind

“…and do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing
of your mind”. Romans 12:2

About the Service

As Christians, we genuinely love God and may outwardly display strong faith. Yet many of us silently wrestle with deep-seated emotional struggles – anger, anxiety, depression, or past trauma, whether emotional, physical, or sexual abuse – that can affect how we relate to others. These unresolved battles can also hinder our spiritual growth and keep us from seeking God wholeheartedly.

Affairs of the Heart, founded by Dr Clayton Thompson – a registered practitioner psychologist and minister of the gospel – offers professional and compassionate online counselling for Christians.

This service combines biblical principles with psychological knowledge and skills to help you overcome emotional challenges, character issues, and relationship struggles.

Traditionally, psychology focuses on mental and emotional issues. However, working with a psychologist who understands your faith can be invaluable, as a Christian psychologist also recognises and addresses the deeper spiritual challenges, providing counsel that aligns with God’s Word.

Frequently Asked Question

Why do I need a psychologist when I have God?

Seeking medical treatment for a physical ailment or consulting a psychologist for emotional challenges does not diminish God’s miraculous power to heal. Just as nutritional guidance helps manage diabetes, psychology offers valuable insights into the mind, emotions, and will (the soul). For example, when someone in the church experiences depression, prayer and spiritual deliverance are vital, but it is equally important to address the mental, emotional, and social factors contributing to their struggle. After spiritual interventions, it is critical to remain vigilant about the thoughts we dwell on, the emotions we allow to take root, and the behaviours we choose to engage in. Psychological insights can often create profound shifts in mindset.

Furthermore, research shows that individuals with spiritual or religious beliefs who face mental health challenges often hesitate to engage with mainstream psychological services, fearing they may not be helpful. Studies confirm that secular psychologists receive little to no training in addressing spiritual and religious issues in therapy. (Link to this website)
